Wireless Solutions

In this day and age of WAP enabled cellphones, wireless PDA's, PocketPC's and different flavors of wireless messaging devices, it is getting harder to determine which wireless solution is best for your company.

In the following article, we will be taking a look at three use cases and the different wireless technologies used in each case.

Case 1 - Mobile Sales Force
Case 2 - Inventory Control
Case 3 - E-Commerce

Case 1 - MMSF, Inc. sells highly configurable products all over the country. The components used in these products come from all over the world and have varying costs that affect the final price of MMSF's products.

MMSF's sales force consists of 500 sales representatives that must have real-time information regarding MMSF's product cost in order to provide accurate bids to their clients.

Solution - The sales force is equipped with Blackberry devices by Research In Motion that allow e-mail to be sent and received wirelessly from anywhere. With these devices the sales representative can forward the prospective client's requirements by e-mail to its corporate headquarters and receive an immediate response with the requested information. Thereby, providing up to date product information and an immediate response to the client.

Case 2 - Big Stores has 1,500 locations throughout the United States. Its warehouse and distribution centers are located in each region of the country.

Maintaining accurate inventory in the warehouses is a monumental task.

Solution - Each warehouse is supplied with wireless bar-code scanning devices that use short range bluetooth or 802.11 technology. This technology allows inventory movement to be tracked and stored in a local database which can then be queried by Big Stores' central distribution system.

Case 3 - Fictitiousstockquotes.com is a subscriber based web site that provides real-time stock quotes to its members.

Over 60% of the members of fictitiousstockquotes.com are very mobile and have requested the ability to check quotes on their mobile phones and PDA's.

Solution - Fictitiousstockquotes.com added WML (Wireless Markup Language) content to its site so members can check stock quotes or view their personal portfolios, as well as make secure trades on any WAP enabled mobile phone of PDA.
